Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 16th ultimo, relative to the Grant of $500 towards the Upkeep of the Cathedral at Hong Kong in consideration of its use by the Troops, hitherto contributed by the Hong Kong Government.
In reply, I am to acquaint you for the information of the Marquess of Ripon that as the Cathedral Church has now been vested in a Church Body who are responsible for the maintenance of the Fabric and provision of the Services, Mr Campbell-Bannerman consents to make the grant, in future, out of Army Funds, and accordingly due provision for the same will be made in the Army Estimates for 1893-94.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
